Berkshire Man Takes On...

A Berkshire man hit the bullseye when securing a dream sporting experience for him and nine friends – thanks to a leading power tools company.

Triton Tools offered a money-can’t-buy competition prize, giving away a private darts exhibition for ten people with five-times world darts champion Raymond van Barneveld.

Simon Novelle, a 41-year-old mechanic from Binfield near Bracknell, won the competition by throwing the highest score of 200 with six darts on the Triton Tools stand at the three-day Screwfix Live trade show in Farnborough in September.

Triton ambassador van Barneveld played at least one leg against each of the guests, before taking on Simon in a best-of-five-leg encounter, which the Dutchman edged 3-2.

Simon’s brother Mark was the only other player to win a leg against the popular player.

Simon said: “It was an unbelievable experience and we all had a fantastic day.

“It’s a dream come true to play a legend such as Barney and to have our own private exhibition with him.

“It was a bit disappointing to lose the deciding leg against him but I think nerves just got the better of me.

“But it’s something I will never forget and I can’t thank Triton Tools enough. They put on an all-expenses paid day for us and made 10 people from Berkshire very happy.”

Simon plays for the Crowthorne Social Club on a Monday in the Yateley League and Winkfield Club in the Bracknell & Ascot League on a Tuesday, and all of his invited guests who joined him at the Triton-sponsored Birmingham exhibition were his team-mates.

Van Barneveld said: “It was a great day and I really enjoyed it.  Quite a few of the group were very good darts players and I had a great game against Simon, who played really well.

“For Triton Tools to give this opportunity was a fantastic prize and I’m really glad the day was such a success.”
