This month Good Woodworking has certainly been out and about, checking out what’s going in workshops around the country.

Ben Plewes headed west to find a cooperative of woodworkers recently installed in Bristol who are turning out stunning work (as seen at the Betty Norbury). He carried on driving further west, over the Severn Bridge into Welsh Wales to find Roni Roberts who shared with Ben her inspirational methods on production.

The rest of the GW team, meanwhile, were also ferreting around Bristol, checking out the work of Mark Rolt, shipwright, who was completing the build of a 56-foot pilot cutter, the Pegasus. This piece kicks off a series called ‘adventures in timber’ where we look at the life of timber and woodwork outside of the realms of furniture.

In Kit & Tools Andy King split his efforts between his usual most-excellent reviews of the latest tools on the market and a compiling a detailed review of mortising – where he’s discussing techniques and tools.

The home woodworker hasn’t been forgotten in the midst of all this excitement. Mike Jordan’s corner cabinet and Ken Stratford’s composter are two very tidy projects that would be worthwhile additions to any household.

All this, plus Phil Davy’s ever-popular Around the House, plus an opening salvo on trophy making from TR Dave Roberts. A good issue, we think!
