In this month's Good Woodworking

Our 2009 Special, the 13th and final issue of the year, is a bit of a landmark for Good Woodworking. Gathering together many of the jottings and ideas from our readers and writers over the years, it’s a tribute to GW’s past – and the impressive lore collected there over more than 200 issues. What’s more, we hope it’ll provide a reference to lead you into a New Year of woodworking. You’ll find sections on veneering, finishing, design, marquetry, workbenches and much more, filling you with practical advice and hopefully encouraging you to try some experiments, all of it with an emphasis on using everyday hand tools and a real enjoyment of working wood.

The important thing to note at the end of it all, mind you, is something John Brown, former GW contributor, said: "By all means, glean what you can from reading what others say, but don't let that get in the way of your woodwork!" Let’s all drink a seasonal cup to the memory of John Brown, then, and all the good sense he spoke. And let us wish you all very a Merry Christmas and Good Woodworking in the year ahead.
