With the bad weather finally passing, it’s time to get back in the workshop and get started on some long-delayed projects, don’t you think? Keeping that in mind, we’ve taken a fresh look at design, with a personalised look at starting a project, from initial sketches to selecting timber. We’ve also visited the incredibly imaginative Michael Wainwright in Frome, Somerset in search of inspiration; his weird and wonderful creations are bound to give you one or two ideas, even if it’s just incorporating a small area of detail into what you’re doing.

There’re also some smaller projects to get on with, like Dominic Collings’ marking knife and Sarah Thirlwell’s quirky, colourful coasters, while Phil Davy’s wall cabinets are a good, practical way of getting back into the swing of things!

You shouldn’t miss Andy Kings’s comprehensive Group Test either. It’s all about 8in blade pullover mitre saws this month, supported by video footage from Get Woodworking TV.
