Build your perfect plane with the new Veritas custom bench range
Axminster Tools & Machinery has just introduced a new and innovative range of Veritas bevel down bench planes. The range, which is made in Canada but put together to make complete planes in the UK, is exclusive to Axminster and allows the craftsperson to select from a number of different components and build their own unique plane.
Briefly, there are two blade options (O1 and PM-V11), six variations on a rear tote, three for the front knob and three for the frog. Number crunching the figures reveals that there are 108 different options that could be applied to just one plane. Multiply that by the five planes in the range (No. 4, 4½, 5, 5½ & 7) and it becomes clear that there are 540 different permutations.
Parts for the planes can be purchased online at axminster.co.uk or from one of the company’s seven stores. Once potential users have selected the components (body size, blade, frog, front knob and rear tote), trained staff at AT&M will assemble the customised plane. It can then be taken away from a store or will be despatched in the normal way.
The new range of Veritas bevel down bench planes promises to be an exciting addition to the Axminster hand tool portfolio.
