Watercraft Cordless tool Challenge
Cordless Tools Power Watercraft
At the annual Beale Park Boat & Outdoor Show, 5-7 June 2015, Water Craft magazine organised two tournaments sponsored by Makita UK Ltd for boats powered solely by cordless workshop power tools.
The Cordless Tender Challenge in which contestants in boats under 10' had to race the 350m length of the lake to pick up a passenger and ferry him/her safely back to the start was won by Simon Smith in PAGAN, a lightweight homemade pram dinghy powered by two Makita DHR243 18v Brushless rotary hammer drills.
The Cordless Canoe Challenge, a series of 600m races for boats up to 16' in length around a 'sausage-shaped' course tested manoeuvrability, speed and endurance. In a very close race, the winner was Adam Brown in BROWN'S TORPEDO, another lightweight purpose-made canoe with black hull and yellow 'oilskin' decks again powered by two Makita DHP4546 18v combi drills.
Kevin Brannigan, Marketing Manager of Makita UK Ltd, presented both winners with a 2-piece kit of Makita 18v cordless combi drill and jigsaw, with battery and fast charger.
