Our first magazine of the New Year is actually on sale just before Christmas. Although it’s probably too late for you to make any of the projects featured in this issue, you still have time to buy a present or two. In our Workshop section, Ron Fox completes his encyclopaedic series of articles on routing, taking an in-depth look at some of the things you can do with a router table. Paul Sellers writes about the joys and challenges of introducing woodwork to children, while Ben Plewes offers a quick eight-step guide to help you keep your lungs as free from fine dust as possible. Keith Smith presents another five woodworking gadgets he thinks you must have, and delivers the latest instalment of his kitchen fitting story in his regular Shop Notes column.

For the turners among you, Bob Chapman transforms a piece of cocobolo into a perfect apple-shaped box. Colin Simpson combines elements of spindle and faceplate turning techniques to make a set of napkin rings and a stand to keep them on. Lastly, Chris Child creates a stunning hand mirror with a satinwood handle and frame, surrounded by a violet rosewood bead.
