Meanwhile, in Shop notes Keith Smith makes clever use of wasted space in a fitted kitchen, and updates his long-running test on wood glues with news of the latest successes and failures.

Our turning section offers a festive treat and a technical challenge. Ian Wilkie turns wooden Christmas tree decorations for his friends and family every year, and presents an attractive design for you to copy and hang on your tree. And if you fancy something completely different, Colin Simpson takes a green yew blank and uses it to create an unusual bowl with a square surround and a charred edge.
