In the spirit of the joinery industry, Mike started work as a 17 year old apprentice with the National Federation of Building Trade Employers in August 1967, the organisation from which the BWF evolved. In a letter to his Headmistress at the time the organisation wrote:

This beautiful reinvention of the standard sideboard looks beyond the conventional cabinet design. Sebastian Errazuriz created the Wave Cabinet, inspired by waveforms and made out of around 100 Baltic birch slats interconnected by a series of individual hinges, move one and the others follow in a wonderful cascade as the cabinet opens.
