Jet JWBS9 bandsaw review

The bright, white JWBS9 is another machine with some useful features. It has an alloy frame with a one piece plastic access door. Alloy wheels are used for the blade, and there’s a simple tensioning and adjusting system. The edge of the top casing has a useful viewing window for visual checking of the blade tracking.

A steel and alloy upper blade guard is used, and this runs on a rack-and pinion system. The guides themselves are similar to the ones installed on the Ryobi, with a pair of square section steel bars and a roller thrust bearing. The guides underneath the table are identical.

The table itself is made from alloy and can be tilted to 45° for bevel cutting. It’s a bit fi ddly to move, but once you’ve done this it locks securely in position with a Bristol locking handle.

Two fences are supplied: the rip fence is identical to that on the Titan and locks to the table at both ends with cam levers; the mitre fence is a rather superior construction for a saw in this price range, with a large adjustable alloy front fence that gurantees good workpiece support.

The Jet also has a very useful and powerful worklight; it’s a 12-volt unit and is mounted on a fl exible arm to aid optimum positioning. This is a welcome addition, though it only turns on when the motor is running; however, it supplies an excellent source of bright light.
