The Inventor, a collection of new compositional works by Norman Mackay, musician and woodworker, is launching on the 3rd of December at the Caves, Edinburgh. Doors open at 8pm for 8:30pm start.
The Inventor merges Scottish and European influences, crossing both boundary and genre. Norman, on button accordion, will be joined by some of Scotland's leading musicians Feargus Heatherington - violin & viola, Greg Lawson – violin, Claire Campbell - fiddle, Su-a Lee - cello, Phil Alexander - piano, among other special guests.

The event will also premier Norman’s latest woodworking project ‘The Woodeye Piano’ an upright piano with the woodwork designed and built in his own signature style using Scottish Elm. The piano will be onstage at the Caves on 3rd Dec when Norman launches his latest album.

  Norman Mackay is a Scottish Musician, Composer and Furniture Maker based in Edinburgh. Originally from Nairn, he has Scottish music and passion for accordion passed on from his ancestors. Accordion traditionally featured in Norman’s family when his great grandfather purchased accordion on a weekend family trip to town and played accordion ever since. As a woodworker Norman graduated at The Chippendale International School of Furniture in East Lothian in 2010, and setup Woodeye Furniture.

Combining traditional and contemporary elements, his work crosses between the Scottish and European influences of his compositions to his woodwork and furniture making which, working with the natural elements of the wood, merges style with innovation.
