New Axminster Waxes...

The new Axminster Waxes are designed to suit a variety of applications. Originally, there was only machine wax; however now, using in-house knowledge and expertise, Axminster have developed a range that will not only maintain your machines but also protect your hand tools, enhance and seal your woodwork projects and restore antique pieces.

So, let’s take a look at what’s in the range.

Microcrystalline Wax - commonly used in museums and historic houses, versatile microcrystalline will preserve, protect and enhance your woodwork and can also be used on antique artefacts, such as coins, classic car parts, vintage paintwork and more. As this wax has a much higher melting point when compared to other waxes, it helps protect against fingerprints. This is particularly desirable for objects which receive frequent handling. The pH neutral and acid-free qualities of this wax make it suitable for use on sensitive materials such as tortoiseshell. Once buffed, it will enhance the patina giving a gentle sheen or soft glow. Also, the wax stays clear after application, ensuring there is no discolouration to your project.

Machine Wax – this type of wax will greatly reduce friction between timber and the surface of the machine table. The unique anti-friction formulation is particularly effective on cast iron tables, and will give you greater control by lowering the effort required to push your workpiece through the machine. The wax also helps to protect your machine against corrosion.

Hand Tool Protection Wax - specially formulated for hand tools, this wax helps prevent oxidation by forming a protective barrier on planes, chisels, saws and other hand tools. In a similar way to machine wax, it will also enhance a tool’s performance by reducing the friction between the tool and the workpiece.

Wood Wax - available in a clear paste or in a variety of colours, which can be used to adjust the finished colour of previously dyed wood, this carefully formulated blend of wood wax will revive, restore and protect wood. The unique formulation contains UV protection and provides a long-lasting, durable finish. Use it on bare, sealed, dyed or previously polished wood.

With eight varieties in the range (including old favourites and new additions), whether it’s maintaining a machine, protecting your hand tools or restoring an antique piece, there’s sure to be an Axminster Wax for you.
