Exhibition of outstanding contemporary woodturning

 

A unique one day ’pop-up’ exhibition of contemporary woodturning was held by the Turners’ Company on Wednesday 29 October in the historic Apothecaries’ Hall in the City of London.

Combining entries to the 2014 Competitions of the Turners’ Company with curated collections of contemporary woodturning and historical items, it offers every type of woodturning - from the complex to the classic and the artistic to the incredible.

The Lord Mayor, Alderman Fiona Woolf CBE (who is also an Honorary Liveryman of the Turners’ Company) judged the I00+ competition entries the previous day (Tuesday  28  October) and present the awards.

Launched this year, the Fiona Wolf Competition has the theme of ‘Energy in the Square mile’. It has attracted some extraordinary, creative and innovative entries using different woodturning techniques.

More than 200 items were on display with many available for purchase, making the Exhibition one of the largest presentations of woodturning ever held in London. It provides an opportunity to see outstanding works by a wide range of makers which demonstrate the ‘art and craft’ of woodturning.

The Exhibition will also include a display of turned work by pupils of Valence School, a Special Educational Needs school for children with physical disabilities or complex medical needs. Valence is one of the many schools and charities supported by the Turners’ Company.

The Exhibition was held in Apothecaries Hall, one of the oldest and most impressive Livery Halls in the City of London. The current Hall dates back to 1672. The Exhibition will be held in the Great Hall.
